Eritrea is a country that has many natural wonders. It is blessed with a long and beautiful seacoast, over 350 islands, high mountains, low land depressions, wild life, hot water springs, forested mountains and hot sandy desert areas. All these diverse natural exquisiteness make it to be an ideal and fascinating tourist destination.
Eritrea’s Red Sea coast stretches for about 1200 kms (746 miles) and has extraordinary marine life, including fishes that are only found here, colorful coral reefs, dolphins, sea turtles and other species. Offshore to the dazzling and unspoiled beaches lies 350 islands scattered around its territorial waters, adding more charm for beach-lovers, divers and those who enjoy snorkeling.
Besides, the geographical setup of Eritrea is inviting. It has high mountains and lowland depressions with unique features. Eritrea’s highest mountain is called Embasoira and is 3013m (9885 ft) above sea level. On the other end, the lowest inland depression is found on the Danakil Depression, which is 30m (98.5 ft) below sea level and is covered by salt stones. The hot water springs of Mai-Wuuy, which is part of the Great East African Rift valley, is an impressive tourist destination as well.
The Eastern Escarpments are a chain of mountains located in the central part of Eritrea. It enjoys two rainy seasons thus making it evergreen and densely covered in forests. It is wealthy with many animal and plant species. The newly built road that passes through it makes it convenient for visitors to have a thrilling look.
Lions, leopards, ostriches, monkeys, elephants, gazelles, wild donkeys, many species of birds, and others are some of the wild animals that the county is enriched with.
